Health Care Directives, Wills, Durable Power of Attorney

Is your family protected if something happens to you? Will your wishes be carried out if you are too ill to make decisions? Does your family know what you want or don’t want to be done to you medically? Some basic legal documents can give you and your loved ones the peace of mind knowing they can handle your financial and medical needs if you can’t make decisions. Making these decisions before something happens makes sense!

Will
In a Will, you determine who receives your financial assets if you die. You can decide who gets your golf clubs or jewelry, how any house or land you own will be divided, and if you have young children, who will raise them. You can even set up a trust to control your finances until young or dependent loved ones reach a certain age.

Health Care Directive
While you are still in good health, you can decide who you want to make decisions about your health care if you can’t. And you can tell them what treatments you want or don’t want.

Durable Power of Attorney
If you are unable to pay your bills or otherwise deal with your finances, a Durable Power of Attorney allows you appoint someone to handle your finances for you. You can give this person either very limited or very broad powers, including selling real estate and collecting debts.
